WHERE OUR BELIEFS BEGIN
As a kid, I had absolutely no problem getting on a dance floor, singing karaoke or performing in front of people. I loved it.
I wasn't thinking about who was watching me or what they thought. I was just being me.
Then as I got older, I started hearing things like “attention seeker.”
And suddenly, something that had always felt natural to me became something I felt like I needed to control.
There were so many times I stopped myself from doing or saying what I actually wanted because I was worried about what people would think.
And whenever my personality inevitably came out and I was loud, crazy or completely myself, I'd sometimes feel a sense of shame afterwards.
Without even realising it, I had started forming a belief that being fully myself would lead to judgement — and that maybe it was safer to stay small.
